Title of research: Structural testing and analysis of brick masonry retrofitted with various low-cost and carbon-conscious design options

Starting date: March/April 2024 or soon thereafter

Duration: minimum 1 year. Truly exceptional candidates will be also considered for slightly shorter periods. Possibility of extending to max 2 years since starting date base on performance evaluation/funds availability.

Description of research: our group seeks to develop effective and sustainable design strategies to enable the low-cost renovation, reuse and expansion of existing buildings typical of Eastern Canada. Primary objective is to conduct comparative structural tests and numerical analyses scrutinizing various option for low-cost and carbon-conscious. This project will involve collaborations with Carleton University, University of Toronto, UC Berkeley.

Required qualifications: The successful candidate must have a PhD degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Architecture, or in the process of getting one very soon. At least two publications in refereed, top-tier engineering journals edited by ASCE, Elsevier, SAGE, Wiley, Canadian Science Publishing or Taylor and Francis is required. If you worked with any of my present or past collaborators, please clearly indicate that.

Required experience: Documented experience in either numerical modelling or experimental testing (preferred) is required. Having worked on masonry or RC is an asset, albeit not strictly necessary. 

Salary and benefits: As a postdoctoral researcher (group C), you will be offered a salary plus benefits package valued at approximately $50k-60k/year.
